The Smell of Pencils and Crayons. Oh My.
It’s Friday! Almost time for school to be back in session. It’s also county fair time… and school supplies shopping time. I love the smell of pencils and crayons. It always reminds me of going to elementary school with the new backpack, pencil box, pencils, and crayons. You know, back when life was easy. Tonight, we are headed out to the fair to see if I won anything for my entries and for the kids to ride some rides. Fun times. Can’t wait. Well… I give you… Five Question Friday.
Welcome to Five Question Friday!! You’ve come to the right place if you discovered your muses are all caught up with time moving too quickly.

1. What is on your Summer 2013 bucket list?
Well, at the beginning of the summer it was to take the kids to the Pittsburgh Zoo, but the Hub’s emergency surgery nixed that. Maybe next year.
2. What is the most useless item on your child’s back to school list?
My kids don’t go to school this year– just preschool. Do preschoolers have a back to school list? LOL.
3. What is the one reality TV show that makes no sense to you?
There are soooooo many. Really, none of them make much sense. I do, however, like the “normal” ones– ones where the cameras just are there, not where they have to do the challenges and stuff like that. Those annoy me. My current faves are American Pickers, Gas Monkey Garage, Mountain Men, and ones like that. So, to answer the question… the one reality show that doesn’t make a lick of sense to me is Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.
4. What is one movie you can watch over and over again? Why?
Wow. So many. Definitely, Pretty Woman and Lost in Translation.
5. What’s your favorite back to school tradition?
Shopping for school supplies. The smell of the pencils and crayons. The potential of those sharp little points and perfect crayons– all the fun, creative things I can do with them. Sometimes, when I am cleaning up the kids’ art supplies… I smell the crayons and I get an instant sense of peace. Okay, I am weird. Sorry.

It is clear by your answer “shopping for school supplies” that your children are not old enough to have a school supply list. Oh, how I dread it! While I love the smell of pencils and crayons, the aroma is quickly forgotten when cries of “I neeeeeed a blue one, not a red one!” and “But she said it has to be the LARGE glue stick!” and “Can I have the cute cat folder (that costs $2 more than the plain one)???” Kids trying to scatter, kids trying to talk to you all at once, kids getting things they don’t need, but forgetting things they do. And I’m actually very organized! Keep sniffin’ those crayons, sister. Your days of happy school supply memories are numbered. 🙂
Hi Julia! I think I slept through 5QF this week (I worked Thursday night and didn’t think about my computer until Saturday). I see participation is down this week. Anyway, sorry to hear about your hub’s emergency surgery. Hope all is on the up and up now. My kids are teenagers but I still want to take them to the San Diego Zoo or the National Zoo in D.C. Zoo pics make the best scrapbook pages! Call me silly but I love “Oh Brother Where Art Thou?” with George Clooney. Have a blessed day!
hey question no. 4? what happened to “Sound of Music” ?
