Wednesday Hodgepodge – Vol. 114
It’s Wednesday, time for the Wednesday Hodgepodge, volume 114. The last couple of weeks have been crazy– and I honestly can’t even remember if I participated last week! How sad is that? Okay… curiosity got the better of me and I just checked… and I didn’t. Sheesh. I swear, I’d pass myself coming and going! Well, without further adieu, here is my answers to the Wednesday Hodgepodge.
1. When were you last “on a mountaintop?” You may answer in the literal or figurative sense.
I think the last time I was literally on a mountain top was when we were down in Gatlinburg for a vacation. This was pre-kids… so, it was awhile ago. Of course, we drove over (and through) mountains to get down there, but we actually tried hiking to the top of Clingman’s Dome… but the fog came in and the Hubs was having problems breathing with his asthma, so we headed back to the car. We did take the Roaring Fork Motor Trail… which, by far, was the coolest thing we have ever done on vacation.
2. Do you establish and maintain a strict budget in your household? What is one piece of financial advice you would offer someone just starting out on their own?
The only time we have a budge is when I get made about how much money we are spending through the month. We will create one and stick with it for about a month and then it falls by the wayside. As an accountant, I do highly recommend one! I even posted about it awhile back. The one thing I suggest to someone just starting out is to save money. Just because you create a budget and have discretionary income leftover at the end of the month. You don’t have to spend it. Stick it in the bank and let it draw interest. Let it sit there for emergencies or for a special trip for yourself.
3. Cherries-yay or nay? Cherry pie, cherry cola, black forest cake, or a scoop of Ben and Jerry’s Cherries Garcia… pick one.
Definitely yay! I love cherries… and, I can’t pick just one of the list above. I will have to say a REAL cherry coke is the top the list. You know, fountain coke with cherry syrup. Dang, how much is left in my lunch hour? I might have to run to Steak and Shake!
4. Should you ever discuss religion or politics with people you don’t know?
Absolutely not. This actually happened on a business trip I was on not too long ago. The company had taken us out to dinner and one of the guys on my team and a guy from another team started talked about the Presidential election. Very awkward and uncomfortable. At one point, I thought there was going to be WWE Live wrestling on the table in front of us.
5. When you take a road trip, do you prefer to be the driver or the passenger? Where were you headed on your last road trip?
It really just depends on my mood for the day. Normally, if the entire family is going, I like to be the passenger. Our last road trip was a couple of weekend ago… we went up to Castaway Bay in Sandusky.
6. If we peeked inside your closet, what color would we say is most prevalent?
I’d have to say it would be a close tie with blue and pink. Now, if you looked in my pants drawer…. black and brown.
7. Who is your favorite senior citizen and why are they special?
There is a woman here at work that is part of the janitorial crew. Her name is Bea. She just celebrated her 80th birthday not to long ago. She is at work every day with a smile on her face. She always has something nice to say to everyone when she sees you. I’ve eaten lunch with her a couple of times in the cafeteria and she is an amazing and funny person.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
So, as you can see… I changed up the blog design again. I keep getting bored with how it looks. Do you like this one? Nana thinks it looks western, but I liked it because it was retro. When I saw it, it kinda struck me as an old-car feeling. If that make sense. Let me know if you like it or hate it!

Thanks for visiting my blog. The group for mail for seniors is called “Hearts 4 Seniors” and we have a Yahoo group where you sign up….this is the link. Let me know if it doesn’t work.

I like the blog design. I like blogs that are easy to read and not too busy. Yours looks good! I wish I had a real cherry coke to sip while I’m reading : )
I really like the new look. It’s a good color combo.
We have never made a budget in our almost 19 years of marriage, and we’ve lived in all tax brackets. We do take out a consistant savings amount first, so we don’t spend it, but that is our only real plan in place.
We only take road trips, and we love them!
I want to give a answer to question No. 1 on the mountain top. I get on that mountain top every time my little twins hug me and say I Love You, Nana you are my best friend……(wiping a tear from my face)
