Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 261

Happy Wednesday!  Today’s Wednesday Hodgepodge is focused on springtime.  And, I have even included a bonus Wordless Wednesday photo!  Join Joyce and the rest of us for some Wednesday Hodgepodge fun!  Enjoy!

1. What are two or three expectations you have of yourself?

I pride myself on always being ethical – I have even left a job over an ethical issue.  I also expect myself to be helpful and respectful to others.

2. In what way does your outdoor space need sprucing up this spring?

Where does it not need sprucing up?!  The first thing I am tackling this year – with help from my neighbor’s home improvement business – is a new storm door and new sliding glass door.  Both are broken and horrible looking.  I am super excited to get some new ones!

3. According to this site (Roadtrippers), six of North America’s most wondrous waterfalls are-Webster’s Falls in Ontario, Upper Whitewater Falls in North Carolina, Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon, Multnomah Falls in Oregon, The Lower Yellowstone Falls, and Niagara. Have you seen any on the list? Which one on the list would you most like to visit? Prettiest waterfall not on the list that you’ve seen in person?

I have not seen any of these.  I would most like to see Niagara Falls.  Probably the most beautiful I have seen lately is the one on the way home from work near the bike trail… I keep saying I am going to stop and take a picture but haven’t yet.  I really should because I think I talked about it a couple of Hodgepodge’s ago…

4. Looking back, what’s something you wish you’d done as a teenager?

Partied more.  I was a goody-two-shoes when it came to parties.  I never went to any.  I sometimes wonder if I missed out on something… at the very least laughing material.

5. Ham…yes please or no thank you? If you said yes please which of the following do you like best-baked ham with all the trimmings, a ham and cheese sandwich, prosciutto with melon, a ham biscuit, a bowl of split pea and ham soup, or a slice of pizza topped with ham and pineapple?

I love ham.  I would have to say a ham and cheese sandwich… the best being at the little Amish market north of us.  They have this ham – I think it is called “off the bone” ham and the BEST colby cheese in the world.  Nana and I take the kids up there and buy ham and cheese and then eat some on the way home!

6. Are you typical of your generation? How so?

You know… I truly think so.  I am a Generation-Xer… and I truly identify with that generation.  Occasionally, some people at work have assumed that I was a Y’er… and I quickly corrected them. I think it is because I obtained my degrees later than most people, as well as having younger children than most of my peers.  According to one website, they claim Gen-Xer traits are:

Accept diversity
Reject rules
Killer life
Mistrust institutions
Use technology
Latch-key kids
Friend-not family

Yeah… that’s me in a nut shell.  And damn proud of it.

7. April rolls in at the end of the week, and in keeping with that theme…’act the fool’, ‘nobody’s fool’, ‘a fool’s errand’, ‘could have fooled me’…which foolish idiom most recently applies to you? Explain.

I would have to say Act the Fool.  This past Saturday, we took the kids to the Children’s Museum in Indianapolis.  They wanted to go down the “Chocolate Slide” that goes from the second floor to the first floor.  They both went down together and the attendant asked “are you going to?”  I figured, “What the heck?”  I went down the huge slide…. except I kept going when I hit the mat at the bottom… just in time to see the kids and Don walking away.  They didn’t know I came down the slide (thank God, there might be photo documentation!)  But, I threw out my hip and couldn’t get off the mat.  I felt like an idiot.  The attendant at the bottom had to help me up with all these (smarter) parents standing there waiting for their kids.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Here’s my Wordless Wednesday picture… I took this driving home last week.  It seemed like the clouds went forever.

  1. Ha! I’m glad you went down the slide! I’ve done it many times. Yes, we look like goobers, but you had more fun (and a funny story to share) than those “smart” parents at the bottom. Next time let me know you’re coming and I’ll race you down it. 🙂

Niagara Falls is beautiful. It is super disappointing to see how the commercialization has built up around it, though. When I was a kid/teen, the falls were the main attraction. The last time we went was with our kids. Yes, the falls are marvelous, but now it is an expensive trip full of stupid wax museums and ripleys and other tourist junk that have nothing to do with the falls.

  2. I wish I could get new sliding glass doors. I have two huge ones and they are both with broken seals so they look fogged up! Hate them. Here visiting from the link up. Have a great week!

  3. Love that beautiful photo of those big, white fluffy clouds!

  4. NO number four you did not miss out on anything by going to parties and remember that when your children someday ask you to go to teenager parties……

  5. awesome clouds.

  6. Gorgeous photo! I’m a bit obsessed with a pretty sky : )
