1000 Shillings

1000 Shillings is a Uganda-based organization that helps mothers earn a living by making jewelry from paper.  These artisans are given a way to tell their story, sell their jewelry worldwide and fund their own businesses, which in turn is used to feed their families.  They are paired up with mentors that help them start and succeed at business, and reach their goals– whether it is to buy land or just pay school fees for their children.

You can meet six of these women from the Namatala slum, Uganda,  read their stories, and see their beautiful jewelry:

Aidah
Annette
Veronica
Esther
Martha
Elizabeth

This is just a small sampling of the beautiful jewelry these women make!

Any of these handmade, unique pieces would be a beautiful Christmas gift for someone special…

I encourage you to go check out the jewelry line and do a little shopping!
