Echoes of Mercy by Kim Vogel Sawyer

Once again, Kim Vogel Sawyer has written an amazing novel.  Echoes of Mercy is about a young woman who goes undercover at a candy factory to discover the truth about a colleague’s death and to report on child labor in the factory.  Meanwhile, the owner’s son is also undercover in an attempt to get to know the business and employees prior to taking over for his father.

After a chance meeting, Caroline and Ollie become fast friends until they discover they are on two sides of the child labor argument.  Meanwhile, Caroline finds herself responsible for some recently orphaned children, and with the help of Ollie and other “fairy godparents” in the story.

If you love historical fiction, you will love this sweet love story set in the early 1900’s.  You will find yourself laughing and crying over the events in the story.  You will find yourself disliking Ollie, then rooting him on in his quest.

As an employee of the Labor Commission, Letta (Caroline) must go undercover to discover the facts around her colleague’s death in the Disnmore Chocolate Factory.  Suspecting foul play is involved, Caroline begins her investigation, with the help of Ollie.  Meanwhile, a chance meeting on the street with a young girl results in Caroline taking her ill father to the hospital and soon accepting responsibility of three orphaned children.  Similar to her childhood, Caroline was taken in my an amazing man and woman who took her in as their own and raised her to be a loving, strong-willed, faithful individual who fights for children’s rights in the workplace.

This novel is a definite must-read, especially if you like historical fiction.  I can’t wait to check out more of Kim’s books!
