It Starts With a Playground

KaBOOM! is one of the the largest non-profit organizations in the United States dedicated to saving play for children.  They envision a safe play area within walking distance of every child in America.  The first playground was built in 1995, and KaBOOM! was officially founded in 1996.  Since then, 6,044,470 children have been served, 1,099,194 volunteers have been engaged, and 14,232 playgrounds have been built, opened or improved!

This month, KaBOOM! wants you to show a little playground love!

Send in photos of your favorite playgrounds and check out other submissions on their Facebook page.  You can also follow along on Twitter or Instagram using #ilovemyplayground.  Three Grand Prize Winners will each receive a set of two Buddy Bounce Balls and five Runner-Up Winners will each receive a copy of the book Go Out and Play:  Favorite Outdoor Games from KaBOOM!

The deadline is February 19th… so get out and play… and take some photos!

I wrote this post as part of The Global Team of 200, a highly specialized group of members of Mom Bloggers for Social Good that concentrates on issues involving women and girls, children, world hunger and maternal health.

Our Motto: Individually we are all powerful. Together we can change the world. We believe in the power of collective action to help others and believe in ourselves to make this world a better place for our children and the world’s children.

  1. I seem to remember when these play grounds came into being and thinking–gosh wish they had those when I was young. No rubber mats for us–usually just cement–with swings, a teeter totter, a slide and a sandbox-I think I vaguely remember a metal contraption that you could climb in (no mat underneath!)

  2. It’s always nice to know that there’s a group of people out there who truly care. Where we live there’s not a whole lot to do for kids, but we have almost 10 parks for them to go and play on which in a way is a savior to me! lol.

  3. Awesome!! We are looking for a playground for our grand children. I Liked their FB page. What a great thing they are doing and it’s so great to see all the volunteers that give of their time. This will help me in deciding exactly how elaborate we want to go with our playground for our backyard.

Thank you for joining in on my very first blog hop at Tuesday’s Thoughtful Comments. I hope you enjoy your stay and that you’ll come back next week to link up your awesome blog post. Have A Happy Day, Kim at Mommie…Again

  4. Where we used to go… the swings were so close to the trees, you could (if you were good and brave) jump from the swing and throw your arms around the tree and then climb down!

  5. It’s the same where we live. But, we have an awesome park the next town over– so we usually do the whole picnic and ice cream thing and make an outing of it.

  6. Love this initiative! Many of my fondest childhood memories are from our neighborhood playground. With the rise in technology, video games, etc – it’s just not as “fun” for kids to be outside as it used to be. I love that my youngest son is a huge fan of the outdoors and encourages my oldest to get out there and play with him.
