Pumpkin Carving Fun

It’s that time of year – pumpkin carving time!  This year, we had an opportunity to try out Pumpkin Master tools and stencils… pumpkin carving has come a long way from when I was a kid!  Back in those days, you used a kitchen knife and made geometric cuts while trying not to slice your finger off!  This year, it was an added bonus… it was the first time we ever carved pumpkins with the twins!  In the past, we have always just let them use markers and paint. But, this year we thought we would try carving since the Pumpkin Master tools are safer than regular knives.

If you are unfamiliar with Pumpkin Masters, they have a line of safe and fun pumpkin carving tools that make carving pumpkins a breeze!  From saws, to stencils, to battery-operated lights… they have everything to create fun, unique (and scary!) pumpkins this Halloween!

We used both the regular saws to cut out a pattern from the book, as well as the punches (I love these) to create a pattern on one of our pumpkins.  But, by far, the best tool is the scoop… it keeps you from ruining kitchen spoons scooping out the guts! Another bonus, in my book, is the knives/saws are safer than using kitchen knives!  One of the knives slipped while I was helping Mo carve her pumpkin and it sliced my finger… a kitchen knife would have been a horrible cut… the Pumpkin Masters saw left something similar to a bad paper cut!  (Makes me wonder what my parents were thinking letting us use huge kitchen knives to carve pumpkins with!)

Don’t worry if you aren’t creative!  The patterns are so easy to use, anyone can do it!  Just follow the directions on how to apply the pattern, transfer the pattern using the tools, and use the saws to create your masterpiece!  (You can see in the above picture we used the poker tool to transfer the cat face to make it easier to carve our pumpkin.)

Our finished pumpkins… not bad for two six year-olds and an accountant.

Once we carved our pumpkins, we used Pumpkin Masters lights to make them glow.  The tea lights actually flicker like candles – while being much safer!  Plus, if you are like us… we always forget to go outside and blow them out.  The worst thing that can happen with these lights is you have to replace the batteries!  We also used the LED light to create a creepy glow in our punched pumpkin.

Scary, huh?

You can find Pumpkin Masters at your local store or check them out on the web at www.pumpkinmasters.com!  While you are there, make sure you enter into their pumpkin carving contest for a chance to win $5000 or just vote on your favorite!
