Tasty Tuesday: Taco Bake

This is a recipe that I originally found in Kraft’s Food and Family magazine in Winter 2007. (I can’t believe I actually wrote down on the recipe card where and when I found it!) We have adapted it over the years to make it even gooier and yummier than theirs. Enjoy.
Taco Bake
1 package Kraft shells & cheese dinner
1 lb ground turkey OR beef
1 packet reduced sodium taco seasoning
3/4 cup water
1 cup sour cream
2 cups shredded cheese
1 cup salsa (or more, if desired)
Preheat oven to 400º F. Prepare macaroni and cheese as directed on package. Meanwhile, brown meat and drain. Add taco seasoning and water to meat. Mix well and simmer for five minutes.
Stir sour cream into prepared macaroni and cheese. Mix in taco meat. Mix in salsa and half the cheese. Spoon into a baking dish and cover with aluminum foil.
Bake for 15 minutes, or until heated through. Top with remaining cheese and bake an additional 5 minutes, uncovered.
The original recipe is located at: Kraft Foods.
But, mine is much yummier.
