Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 196

My new job is going great!  I love the people and the work is very challenging.  Everyone is so friendly and helpful… though I really wish everyone would wear name tags until I got to know them!  Since today is Wednesday, that means it is time for the Wednesday Hodgepodge!  It’s almost volume 200… did you notice?  Check out my answers to Joyce’s questions and then answer them yourself!

1. Joyce’s hubs spent last weekend pheasant hunting. Are there hunters in your family? If so, what do they hunt? Which of the following have you tasted-pheasant, rabbit, venison, duck, goose? Which of those would you most like to taste, or be most willing to taste?  Vegetarians keep calm and Hodgepodge on.

My dad used to hunt deer with a bow before he died.  In fact, we buried him in his hunting vest much to my grandmother’s chagrin.  I have tasted a lot of unique things… rattlesnake, whale, bear, kangaroo, ostrich.  Of those above, I have had pheasant, rabbit, venison, and duck.  I don’t think I have ever had goose… but maybe I have.  So, I guess I’d be willing to try goose.  I could go for some bunny burgers though…

2. What high spot have you visited that gave you a wonderful ‘bird’s eye view’ of something below?

I’d have to say mom (Nana) and I’s visit to the Grand Canyon.  It was amazing to stand at the edge and look down to the canyon floor to the river.

3.  Do you have any birds in your home? These could be either real live pets or decorative, as in bird prints, knickknacks, fabric or pottery.

Yes.  They live in the vent in my attic.  Hopefully, they never get any further than the screen that blocks them from the actual attic.  I hope.
4. Tell about a time you ‘killed two birds with one stone’?

Heck if I can remember.

5. Your favorite song with a bird in it’s title?

Rockin’ Robin!

6. What most recently gave you goose bumps?

I was doing the dishes the other day and had just rinsed off the cutting board and put it in the strainer and there was this HUGE spider crawling on it.  I have no idea where it came from or how it got there but it freaked me out and gave me the chills.

7. Halloween is this Friday…any plans? Did you trick or treat as a child? Carve pumpkins? Share your most memorable costume.

We are taking the kids Trick or Treating Thursday.  We always went out as children… both in our town and in my grandparent’s town.  We always craved pumpkins.  Probably the most memorable costume was when I took one of those pumpkin leaf bags and cut holes for my arms and legs, put it on with black pants, stuffed it with newspaper and tied it around my neck with a green ribbon.  I then took a paper plate, painted it and a toilet paper roll green to make the stem and tied it to my head.  It was the cutest and easiest costume ever.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

My “babies” at their last soccer games of 2014.

  1. here is a story about Julia’s dad on hunting. In my family we never had hunters so when I heard my new husband was going hunting for those cute animals I had a fit. But he went anyway. When he came home I saw nothing in the truck. So I started teasing him, his response was it is in the carrying pocket of the jacket, it is all cleaned and ready to fry up. So I was curious and being dumb I reached in and pulled out a skinned squirrel. I screamed dropped it and ran into the other room. I never forgave my new husband nor would I eat his squirrel stew!
