Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 616

Julia

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for a little midweek fun with the Wednesday Hodgepodge! Every week brings a new set of random questions—sometimes thoughtful, sometimes silly, and always a good way to pause and share a slice of life. Grab your coffee, pull up a chair, and let’s dive into this week’s hodgepodge of conversation starters.

This week, find out what I feel is worth standing in line for, a favorite food memory, and what I did last week! If you would like to play along, head over and visit Joyce at From this Side of the Pond and get the details!

Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 616

1. What’s worth standing in line for?

Hmmmm. Amazing chocolate. A great book.

2. Tell us about a favorite food related memory.

When my dad would pick me up from preschool and I had a bad day or was sad, he would always stop and get me a hand-dipped, mint chocolate chip waffle cone. It became our “thing.” Even as an adult. The other day, Pete and I went into UDF and I wandered over to the ice cream counter. Without thinking, I asked for a mint chocolate chip waffle cone. It was sooooo good!

3. What are some things you find particularly peaceful or calming?

Hearing the trees blow and rustle in the wind at the farm. If you close your eyes, it almost sounds like ocean waves. I also love hearing the birds and tractors and all the “country” sounds while outside. It truly is my happy place.

4. Is there something you do now that gets you just as excited as it did when you were a child?

Going to a book store – especially if it is one I have never been to before! And bonus, if it is a used book store! I love thinking about what amazing adventures I will go on with my new books.

5. To what degree are you in touch with friends from grade school? high school? college if you attended college?

I have a couple of friends I occasionally talk to from grade school, several from high school and two from college. It is interesting to see where we all ended up and how our lives have turned out.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Last week, I went to the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts (NAME) convention in Cincinnati. I had very, very high hopes but was rather disappointed. I am not sure if it is because I purchased “day passes” because I couldn’t afford the week-long pass, or what. The two classes I took were amazing! I can’t wait to share what I made when they are finished. But, the rest of it was kind of lame. I wasn’t allowed to do much because I was on day passes – so it was a lot of sitting around the hotel meeting rooms waiting for the next event. The week-long pass price was ridiculous and that didn’t include some of the lunches – you had to pay extra for those, for the classes, and for your hotel. Not sure I will ever go back. To me, it wasn’t worth the prices.

In fact, I had Pete pick me up early Thursday, and we went to lunch and antiqued all afternoon! We had a blast. Between the three we visited Thursday and the two on Friday – I found 17 old cookbooks! I was so excited!
